Small grains - wheat, oats, rice, rye, barley, and more - are joining corn to once again become Hudson Valley crops! Upstate New York was once a grain-growing breadbasket until production shifted to the Midwest. Watch innovative scientists, farmers, bakers, and brewers collaborate to produce a new generation of grains suited for the northeast, bringing sustainable local grain production back to the region. Watch the trailer here.

Panel discussion with film participants and other local grain activists -- find out more about delicious local grains:

  • Jon Bowermaster: acclaimed writer, filmmaker, and adventurer, Jon is a six-time grantee of the National Geographic Expeditions Council.
  • Nick Cipollone: President, Rondout Valley Growers, Barthel's Farm, Ellenville since 1947.
  • Chris or John Kelder: Kelder's Farm, Accord, an almost 200-year-old farm growing rye for Arrowood and popcorn for Bjorn Qorn, plus 100 acres of you-pick produce.
  • Bjorn Quenemoen: founder of Bjorn Qorn, popped with solar power on Kelder's Farm.
  • Nfamara Badjie, Moustapha Diedhiou, Dawn Hoyte: Ever-Growing Family Farm, master rice farmers from the Senegambian region of West Africa now growing in the town of Ulster.
  • Sharon Burns-Leader: co-owner of Bread Alone Bakery and Cafes, baking with local grain.
  • Christian Malsatzki: Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County, Agricultural Program Leader for small grain, urban agriculture, and small acreage educator.
